FAQ

WHAT IS DR. CAMPOS’ THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?

Dr. Campos is trained in a variety of evidence-based and research-informed therapies. Her primary theoretical orientation and approach is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), incorporating mindfulness strategies. CBT is an active, time-limited and collaborative process, where the patient and therapist collaborate to establish and achieve specific goals in therapy and daily life. Dr. Campos also employs an integrative and family systems approach.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

Dr. Campos first briefly speaks with potential clients or their parents by phone to address any questions and concerns about the treatment process. Once an appointment is scheduled, patients are asked to complete a questionnaire and provide any materials that would be helpful for Dr. Campos to review before the initial meeting. Such materials include reports of any previous educational, psychological, neuropsychological and/or psychiatric evaluations and treatments, as well as 504 plans and/or IEPs.

HOW OFTEN WILL THERAPY TAKE PLACE AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The initial intake appointment takes 1 to 2 hours. Thereafter, Dr. Campos meets with clients for 45 minutes once a week. Depending on their needs, some clients meet with Dr. Campos for 1 hour per week. Parents are actively engaged throughout the therapeutic process to ensure they also understand the treatment goals being targeted and how they can better support their children as a family in using the skills outside of the therapy setting. Treatments generally last between 3 to 12 months, or longer, depending on the type of presenting problem and specific treatment.

Dr. Campos meets with groups for either 1 hour or 1.5 hours once a week, depending on the type of group.

DO YOU ACCEPT MEDICAL INSURANCE?

As an out-of-network provider, Dr. Campos does not accept insurance. However, upon request, Dr. Campos provides receipts of payments containing the information generally required by insurance companies for reimbursement. The client can attach these receipts to his or her insurance claim forms. As insurers differ greatly in the services they cover, clients are advised to contact their provider before the initial appointment and ask about eligibility for reimbursement for out-of-network services with a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Campos collects payment at the time of service.

DO YOU PRESCRIBE MEDICATION?

Dr. Campos does not prescribe medication. Studies have found that CBT effectively treats a variety of mental health issues without the use of medication. However, other studies have found that CBT combined with medication can also be beneficial. For clients who have a history of medication use or are interested in learning about the possible benefits of medication, Dr. Campos works with clients’ physicians or nurse practitioners or refers clients to physicians or nurse practitioners with expertise in prescribing medication.
